Client is one of the top three Wireless service providers in the US. Client has pioneered the deployment of 2.5G and 3G voice and data networks and has embarked on an aggressive application and quality of service driven market share gain in the US.
Problem
Client wanted to develop an automated test, validation and monitoring system for its phone and server systems. The Client's core development team needed to ship and support the current release and did not have the internal resources to develop test automation, validation and monitoring of the complex CDMA system. The Client was involved in the approval process for the architecture for the system, as this was to become an integral part of its core product.
Solution
Volti principals handled the architecture and development for the first release of the Test automation harness, providing a real time test and monitoring system for the Client's phones and server systems. With the System Availability harness, the Client reduces its system test time for typical software changes to the phone and server from over 3 man-years to less than 3 man-months. Moreover, the Client plans to use this system to monitor Quality of Service on a 24x7x365 time basis from multiple geographic locations in order to stay ahead of customer quality perceptions. This is expected to help the Client retain market share and reduce "churn" in the very competitive US wireless market. This order of magnitude reduction in test and validation cost is made possible by the unique extensible framework developed by Volti.
